2024.11.08
Autumn has set in as DigiGame Expo was held on Sunday, November 3, 2024 at Akihabara UDX.
At the venue, numerous indie game developers gathered and showcased their newest works created with ingenuity and innovation.
I will go into detail as to how the INDIE Live Expo press team selected standout works that left a strong impression among the collection of beautifully crafted games played at the venue. (Please forgive any preferential decisions)
This article was brought to you by ILE staff member Yoshihara.
We also have multiple other publications by Ikeya and Furushima, so we hope you’ll take a look at those as well.
『Non Eternals』:asiram works
Everyone, do you know of that specific MMORPG 14 with a heavily customized user interface?
It might come to you as a surprise when a game looks vastly different from the usual default display, or you see gauges and icons in unlikely locations from what you are used to seeing.
Non Eternals is an action RPG in which you must customize your screen for the best playing experience.
While the characters moving about look chibi with their cute appearances, the gameplay is top-notch with its action RPG gameplay.
A “combo” system exists where you can chain commands together to increase maximum damage output. The game appears to have you focused on skill rotations… we’re excited to see the full extent in the full version.
There’s also a special system where an ‘adjacent’ effect occurs when placing a skill command next to the information display window.
This is one of those cases where it’s hard to explain with just words, so feel free to try it out yourself.
Notice the SP gauge in the above image. It is placed on top of the skill commands.
Normally, the three magic spells aligned from the left would cost 800SP each, but if you look closely, you can see a skill cost 770SP.
This is from the fact that the SP gauge bar itself has an effect that lowers the cost of adjacent commands by 30SP.
Why the command gets the buff is still a mystery… However, having a system where a customizable UI can influence your gameplay is gamebreaking, wouldn’t you say?
To fully maximize your buffs, you would have to be meticulous when customizing and you will end up with… something similar to the amusing picture below.
▲I attempted placing the command next to the HP gauge (reduces cast time) and SP gauge (reduces SP consumption). Quite practical if I must say.

『BREAK ARTS III』:MERCURY STUDIO
My heart yearns for robot games.
Yet, my heart also yearns for racing games.
And to this, the creator retorts with, “I’ll make my own game!” as they pour their soul into their mecha battling racing game series, BREAK ARTS.
The showcased game this time, BREAK ARTS III, is the latest game installment since the PC release of BREAK ARTS II seven years ago.
BREAK ARTS III’s customization is its essence.
The ability to customize your parts and configure your own mecha makes the BREAK ARTS III experience all the better.
In the previous BREAK ARTS II, customizing parts was already refined, but the newest title takes customization to the next level. It is not just about switching parts, you have to take into consideration its configurations.
This time you can equip parts beyond both arms; you have the possibility of attaching them to your main body. You can even try placing blades on your entire body… ramming into others is a winning method.
▲For the demo, players had to choose from pre-made mechas. The red mecha on the far left could transform, which threw players off guard with its gameplay style.
You thought customization was only for racing? Think again. BREAK ARTS is not only about competitive racing. Take into account the implemented battle mode.
▲The dichotomy of the inorganic UI with the radiant particles on display. Graphics were richly designed.
Recently, there has been a resurgence in popularity among mecha games with the release of ARMORED CORE VI.
When I inquired a MERCURY STUDIO staff member, “Do you feel any pressure?” They responded with, “Not at all!”
They continued, “We’ll make something that we want to play!” Without a second thought, “The audacity!” I uttered after hearing such a great response.
BREAK ARTS III is slated for release on Steam in 2025.
▲A lot of effort was put into the lift off scene. Even the catapult transformations were carefully handled.
▲Many stylish mechas were sold at the venue. Acrylics sold out quickly.

『Wabisabi SushiDerby』:ITAMAE STUDIO
「“Sushi spoils quickly…”」
As soon as I heard these words while the developer was playing the demo, I unconsciously clapped my hands.
In the racing simulator Wabisabi SushiDerby you get to cultivate sushi and have them race in this game.
This game alternates between cultivating and racing. First you have to mold the sushi, name the sushi, and then train the sushi.
Remember when aiming for the supreme ultimate sushi to give them the correct motivating words they need to hear. You can be gentle, or give it a pep talk when training.
Finally, it is time for the sushi to race.
They will either race around the conveyor belts or sushi restaurant.
However, they are only mere sushi.
Be careful as customers may arrive to eat the sushi in the middle of the race.
Although the sushi will drop out of the race by being eaten, it was still able to serve its life purpose of satisfying the customer’s appetite.
After the race, you can keep raising them and have them race…
As the player, the goal is to make the sushi restaurant flourish by winning the prize money.
You have the ability to name and create your sushi.
It is a sad day to see your cultivated creation be eaten away, but that is also one of the greatest joys of being a sushi chef.
The game was meant to be fast-paced and short when raising and racing, such as the life of sushi.
Wabisabi SushiDerby is planned for release on Steam in 2025.
Let’s wait until Halfbeak is in season before we release the game.
